Creating the Music
Johnson composes via his primary instrument, the piano, in a Neo-Romantic style. Most of his works are keyboard-driven or keyboard-dependent. Over the years, his style has begun to lean more on Americana, jazz and blues influences, while remaining true to the characteristics of each instrument.

Johnson creates music in these three mediums:
Live Recordings
Digital Production
Live/Digital Hybrid Recordings
Live Recordings
-
Johnson uses professional or semi-professional musicians.
-
Printed scores and parts are created for players using out-sourced music engravers.
-
Recording sessions use hired musicians, studios and engineers.
-
Most expensive and time-consuming method of composition.
Digital Production
-
Johnson uses Eastwest Sounds Online Composer Series with 24-bit and 48-bit sampled instruments.
-
This software literally has thousands of available instruments with multiple techniques and effects.
-
Eastwest also contains complete libraries of rhythm section instruments, pedal effects, and room sizes.
-
The software includes a wide variety of exotic and ethnic instruments and vocal libraries.
-
This software makes possible quick mock-ups for director/producers or fully finished scores ready for insertion into media.
-
Eastwest is ideal for multi-track recordings using dozens of instruments and tracks.
-
The most affordable type of composition with fewer outsourced costs and quicker turn-around time.

Live/Digital Production Hybrid Recordings
-
Johnson can combine the authenticity of live musicians in the studio with the diversity of digital production instruments.
-
This method is financially more practical than live recording alone.
